🇳🇱 Johan Cruijff Schaal: TV channel, kick-off times and live streaming in the UK

The Johan Cruijff Schaal opens the Dutch season: a single match between the Eredivisie champions and the KNVB Cup winners, in late July or early August, a few days before the opening round. It has carried Johan Cruyff's name since 1996, and that is unique in Europe: no other national super cup is named after a player. The trophy is a shield, not a cup, which is what schaal means. The match is played at one of the two clubs' grounds, often in Amsterdam, which gives it a proper club crowd rather than a stadium split in two. Ajax are the most successful club as of the 2024 edition. If the champions have done the double, the beaten cup finalist takes their place. For the viewer it is the first chance to see the reshaped squads at work, in the late afternoon or early evening, central European time.
