The Premier League is England's top division: twenty clubs, thirty-eight rounds from August to May, and no winter break, the festive period instead piling up fixtures around the Boxing Day programme on 26 December. Formed in 1992 when the First Division clubs broke away, it saw Manchester United dominate its first two decades before Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal took over; the North West derby between United and Liverpool and the North London derby are among the most watched club fixtures anywhere. Saturday is the anchor, running from early afternoon into the evening, with Sunday games and a Monday night match. The top four or five qualify for the Champions League, the next places go to the Europa League and the Conference League, and the bottom three drop into the Championship.
