The Italian Super Cup has followed the Spanish path, four years behind: since the edition played in January 2025 it is no longer a single match but a four-team mini-tournament - Serie A champions and runners-up, Coppa Italia winners and beaten finalists - staged in Saudi Arabia. The travelling is not new: the competition has been played abroad since the 1990s, in Washington, Tripoli, Beijing, Doha and Riyadh. What really changed is the calendar: it no longer launches the season, it slots into January, when the pecking order is starting to settle. Juventus are the most successful club as of the 2025 edition. For the viewer that is the appeal: two semi-finals midweek, a final at the weekend, and teams that already know each other inside out, having met in the league a few weeks earlier.
